The Review - The Mad Murderer by loleris

The Mad Murderer, one of Mad Studio's most popular games!

The Mad Murderer is a game by Mad Studio, and is the most popular murder game which is still extremely popular. You are chosen to play as either an innocent player, in which you have to survive the round and figure out who the murderer is to help the sheriff, the sheriff himself, in which you have to find out who the murderer was and shoot him down, or the murderer, in which you have to take out every player before time runs out or dying. If the sheriff is killed, the gun will be dropped and any player that touches it gets the revolver.

You can purchase abilities, knife skins, and accessories with credits. You can get credits from credit rains, giveaways, the VIP room, and the daily login bonus. Gun skins are yet to be added, but in the next big update that has been confirmed they might be added! Abilities include things like the Lazer Knife, in which when you get the knife at full power, you can throw it instantly (pretty much a sheriff but with a knife), Shapeshifter, with which you can change your character to another character to trick people (doesn't work well when you have the Epic Radio), and Bulletproof, in which you have to be shot twice to be killed, or, in Murder Madness, stabbed twice.

There's also a Murder Madness round, where everyone is a murderer. You must fight to the death and take everyone out to win the round.

MY EXPERIENCE

Like most Mad Studio games, this game nearly instantly won me over. I think that the game was made extremely well, and obviously a lot of work was put into the game. I have 2 of 3 gamepasses on my alt, since at the time of the selling of them my alt had a valuable limited, so I decided to sell it and buy the gamepasses. Anyways, this is the only murder game that I still play, and I enjoy it very much.

I thought the gameplay was very good and smooth, and I rarely ever encountered any bugs. There's still a hiding place that I use that you pretty much glitch into, but I didn't tell anyone about it and it hopefully won't get patched. I sometimes don't use it, because it's pretty much cheating. Exploiting was a major problem in the begginning of the game, but it's since been patched. There's a new exploit going around but I think it's only in Mad Paintball, but it might be here.

I thought that the murderer wasn't too powerful, but wasn't weak enough to make him seem like a wannabe robber that's never had to do any work in his life. The murderer instantly kills players and also gets more speed when holding the knife, but killing people in public runs the risk of someone seeing you and shouting out your name constantly and telling the sheriff to kill you.

I always get excited when I play as the sheriff, even if I would rather play as the murderer. Sometimes the sheriff seems too powerful, since all he has to do is click on the murderer when he is in sight to kill him. Bullets don't take a while to get to its destination, but it still is hard to aim when the murderer is hopping around. I call them bunny rabbits, but it's not meant as an insult!

RATING

7/10 - This game was well-made and is very fun, but its repetitive gameplay hasn't gotten me to continue playing. I rarely play it, and the last time I played it was when there was a merge, where they merged old content that was updated with newer content. I prefer Mad Paintball, but if you're looking for a good murder game with unique features, I suggest The Mad Murderer.

ROBLOX Discussion - Is ROBLOX Appropriate For Kids?

This post was originally going to be released next week, but we decided to post it early for 2015!

When ROBLOX was made, it was intended for kids to be able to come and create their own worlds. It was created so that kids of a young age, mainly kids that are younger than 10, to come together and have a good time on a nice site. But I'm not so sure that it's good for kids anymore. These are the points I've put together to support my idea.

1. More Tolerance

It takes a lot more to get banned now than it used to. I have sent in pictures and videos of people trying to scam me, and yet ROBLOX has never taken action. In the past, I could've gotten someone permanently banned for doing something like this! ROBLOX is growing larger and because of that, they are letting things slide.

2. Admins That Won't Take Action

Don't get me wrong, the admins on ROBLOX are great and make ROBLOX a better experience. I have personally met some admins in-game and it was really fun. But as stated above, they are less strict.

One admin actually put in his description that if he sees someone hacking in a game, he won't ban them. What's that saying? That we're allowed to hack? That hacking is okay? Things like this encourage people to hack since they know they won't get in trouble.

3. Vulgar Community

When I first joined in late 2010, at least in my experience, people were much nicer to me and other people. I did things with other people, played more co-op games, and had a much better time. But the ROBLOX community has been going downhill ever since then. I see people trying to escape the filter, cussing other people out, telling people to kill themselves. And that's not even a rare sight to see. And once you report them, what happens? They get nothing but a warning, if even that.

I have personally seen people get bullied, and I stuck up for them. Most of the time it worked, and the bully ended up leaving the game because they "had stuff to do," but sometimes a bunch of people join in the bullying, and then the victim leaves because they're being so mean to them. It's horrific and cruel, and I personally hope that whoever does things like that will be banned from ROBLOX. But this isn't even uncommon, just like the harassment. If you're getting bullied, more people will join the side of whoever has the worst insults and comebacks, which is often the unintelligent bully.

Summing It All Up

Basically, a ruder community and more tolerance for bad things make ROBLOX less appropriate for kids. Kids are exposed to inappropriate content and often get bullied on a daily basis. I think that ROBLOX is not for kids. What do you think?

Happy New Years From The ROBLOX Galaxy!

It's officially 2015, and we're deciding to release a post early to celebrate.

Also, we'd thought we'd give you some information on how The ROBLOX Galaxy is going to run.

We are not looking for writers, so please do not ask where to apply for a job. If we decide to hire people, we will tell you.

We will have 2-3 posts a week, unless said otherwise or it is a special occasion.

You are able to submit a post to Jophnist, and if I like it, I will make any editing marks needed.

Thanks for reading! The new post will be coming out soon.

ROBLOX Discussion - Is ROBLOX Changing Their Audience?

Notice: A similar post will be released next week. Happy New Year!

ROBLOX, a perfect game for kids ages 9-12 to build their world and explore other people's creations. Or is it?

I have a feeling that ROBLOX is trying to change itself to appeal to older kids, people around the ages of 14-17. These people will either be graduating in the near future, or almost off to college, and the most likely to learn to script and make games on ROBLOX, since Lua can get complicated and younger people might not want that much of a challenge.

I mean, just look at some of the things they've been doing. We're going to have multiple points here.

1. Developer Exchange

This is probably one of the more obvious ones. Dev Exchange allows you to cash in robux for actual cash. You will need OBC (unless given access to it by doing something like winning a contest) and lots of robux, meaning around 100k robux for the minimum.

This is only an amount of robux developers and investors will be able to reach, or a spoiled ROBLOXian that spends thousands of dollars buying robux. As stated above, scripting is something that will mainly attract older ROBLOXians, and ROBLOX is putting a lot of emphasis on becoming a developer.

2. Site Layout

This is more of an exaggerated point, so feel free to dismiss this as rambling. Anyways, the old layout used to encourage creativity and fun. Now, with the new site updates, everything is extremely bland and it looks like a rip-off of Facebook. I use Stylebot, which is a Google Chrome extension that lets you change the CSS code of a website and share your themes, and I changed the colors of the navigation bars, since the extremely ugly color of the header was too much for me to bare.

Little kids (at least in my experience) want something fun or something to look cool, not have a header with a solid blue background. The older layouts, specifically the one used around 2011, had characters and ROBLOXians shown, such as a ninja and a pirate, and pets to go along with it. That was my favorite layout, but sadly they removed it. People who are used to things like Facebook and Twitter, which are aimed towards teens and adults, will like the design of the navigation.

3. In-Game Ads

In your games, you can set it so that people can watch an ad if they are on a mobile device. You also earn robux from each player that watches an ad, which is an extremely good way to get robux, if your game is popular. Developers are mostly at an older age, so the only people that will profit from this are people with a steady flow of players on mobile devices. ROBLOX was originally on PC & Mac, and are most comfortable played on those, so a lot of the players coming to games will be on a computer. That means you need to have a lot of players so that you will have some mobile players coming to your games and watching ads.

4. Thumbnails and Video Thumbnails

This is a relatively old feature, and something that I use even though I'm not a well-known developer and never finish games. However, it still can contribute to my point. Thumbnails help attract more players, and also give your game a nicer look. I personally love these features, and thumbnails are very cheap if you have a membership, since you can purchase one for R$25.

These thumbnails, as I've said, attract more players, and are mainly used to tell players that there's been an update or just to make the game look nicer. If you want more players in your game, you're probably doing a big event like a video or hanging out with people, or you're trying to get people to play your game so that you can make a profit or just have a lot of people in your game.

What does this all mean?

All of these features are things that will specifically appeal to older players, which probably means ROBLOX is trying to get an older audience to come play their game, or to get a wider audience. They've even become more lenient in what they allow, such as letting people use certain curse words that aren't as bad as others, and even using swear words or controversial words such as the 'h' word in their own items.

I think that ROBLOX is trying to switch their audience. In this year's Giftsplosion, half of the gifts were for developers. If that's not a clear sign, I don't know what is. What's your opinion? Feel free to comment below!

The Review - Mad Paintball!

UPDATE: There's a new code! Look below for Gordon's code.
UPDATE2: More codes have been released. Look below for the rest of the character codes!

The Review is an article in which we review something in ROBLOX. The writer explains what it is and what they think of it. Along with other posts, there will be a Review every week.

This Week's Review: Mad Paintball! by loleris

Mad Paintball is a shooter game where, instead of bullets, you use paintballs. This game was extremely popular on release and still continues to have more than 1,000 players on it at once every day. While there's not much you can do in this game, it is still lots of fun. The game has not had very many bugs in it at all, and the ones that are there aren't game breaking. This game appeals to most people who like shooters, and an even wider audience since the use of paintballs makes it less violent.

MY EXPERIENCE

I have loved this game since the day it was released, and it still continues to please me. I was one of the people to purchase the Mad Paintball Mystery Box, which gives access to 2 exclusive characters, Axel, a sniper, and Adam, a minigunner, and also gives you 150,000 credits. Adam is my personal favorite character, and at the time of writing this article he is level 73 (2 levels until the next level bonus!). There is a wide variety of characters, however, such as Billy and Summer, who are shotgunners that are very strong close range but not good at a distance, and Peter and Chazz who have a rifle, who are pretty good close range but deadly from a long range since other people won't be able to do much damage to them.

There's also things to unlock, such as Harry (the code will be down below), a sniper with low health but is brutal in the right hands, Drew, another sniper who is wonderful for quickscopers since his sniper charges up nearly instantly, Jack, a minigunner with lots of health but like Billy and Summer is terrible from a distance, and then the robux characters, Tyler, Shedletsky, and the Beast.

Multi-kill!
I was able to access the testing server, and what I saw was impressive. The players were not able to play a round but the menu was able to be accessed, and there were many characters and paintball guns that were not yet available. There were lots of characters that were yet to be seen by the public, and then some people from The Mad Murderer. As pictured above, Dennis was one of those characters, who I think was a minigunner (but don't quote me on that.) Some characters that were not in any game yet include Red and Angel.

And while there's a lot of content in the game, the gameplay is amazing. One downside is that waiting to play the game or spectating when getting killed is excruciatingly boring, especially when early in the round. But if you're able to survive, the game is lots of fun. The thrill of hunting down players on the opposing team will be loved by nearly any competitive person, and scoring a kill might take a while, but it's worth it. Once you get kills you can earn credits which are used for buying characters (and soon paintball guns and skins), and you also get experience which you can collect to level up, earning level bonuses at level 25, 50, 75, and 99.

RATING

7/10 - While this game is loads of fun, playing for too long can get boring. I haven't been playing this game as much as I used to, but I do occassionally visit and wipe out the field with Adam. If you're looking for a challenge, Mad Paintball is the game for you.
